Assalamualaikum and hi,this assignment from Nur Najihah bt. Nazri(2015535027) and my partner is Nur Farhanah bt. Ghazali(2015553137)
On the last weekend, my friend and I go to visit the state that is full with historical building and the historical information with is The State of Hang Tuah, Malacca.
After
arrive at there, we began our journey to the The Malacca City. Here is the
little bit fact of Malacca city that we discovered during our journey. Malacca
City (Malay: Bandaraya Malacca, , is the capital city of
the Malaysian state of Malacca. As of 2010 it has a population of 484,885. It
is the oldest Malaysian city in the Straits of Malacca, having become a
successful entrepot in the era of the Malacca Sultanate.
The
unique of this Malacca City is because, there a lots of historical building and
so many places that we can visit. We walked onto Jonka street which is approx.
500 meters long and is lined with some beautiful colonial buildings, some of
which have amazing street art on the walls (some may call it graffiti - odd as
its meant to be protected to preserve its original state!) . We popped in and
out of some of the buildings which are mostly shops selling tourists stuff like
post cards, wooden carvings, scarfs, t-shirts etc.
After
a long walk at the Jonka Street, we decided to take a rest and having our
lunch. Being unbelievably humid we had to take cover in a small cafe which had
strong air conditioning for some food and a break from the heat. We popped into
'The Daily Fix' which was a lovely cafe serving an extensive list of hot and cold
drinks and food. For about RM7 we had a huge bowl of pasta and a coffee.
Then
after we successfully full our stomach with that delicious pasta, we heading
back to our hotel to get some rest and gather enough energy to continue our
journey. In the evening, we left and decided to cross the canal to the UNESCO
area where we instantly saw the iconic red church (Christ Church), the symbol
of Malacca and as you'd expect was surrounded by tourists and opportunistic
locals trying to make a living. There were men with cycles offing tourists a
ride around the town. Each bike was decorated in over the top Disney and other
cartoon characters.
The Red Color that embrace and represent the unique places in the city of historical, Malacca with is the Christ church and the Stadthuys.
The
most popular bike seemed to be a Hello Kitty bike with Hello Kitty soft toys,
towels, flowers covering every square inch of the bike. There were loads and
loads of these cycles driving all over the town making for some good pictures.
We walked around the corner from the church and up a hill to St Paul's church
which was the original church built in the early 1500's. It was built by a Portuguese
sailor which landed in Malacca and built it as a thank you to god for allowing
him to survive the treacherous sea journey which saw them fight with many other
ships along the way.
This
was the main church here for over a hundred years until the Dutch invaded and
built the Christ Church using St Paul's as a storage hut. They were then
invaded by the British in the 1800's and the Brits used the church as an armory
before the church ran into disrepair as it is today.
To
us, this Christ church is really a mesmerizing building. The reason why we said
like that because, the church is painted in red color and famous as The Red
Square in the Malacca. The area where this church is built is one of the
tempting monuments in the locality of the Stadthuys . There are two famous
museums as well just in front of this church named as Ethnographical and
Historical Museum.
Tourist
fantastically possesses keen interest to visit Christ Church Malacca due to its
historical background that is still kept alive to date. For the same reason
visiting Christ Church Malacca is among best things to do in Malacca . The
material of this monument is made of red bricks and the big white cross is seen
on the top of it. The size of the church is not as huge and inside the church
after entering the gate you may come across a long rectangular table having
some selling products kept on it that are myriad catalogs and some religious
stuff. Simultaneously you can also view around ten rows of long benches with
comfortable back seat on it just before that huge table. The most eye catching
view of this church is that the pews are all handmade and was formed around two
hundred years back. A souvenir of Dutch army and civilians can be seen at large
that includes fanlights and tiles particularly.
The
area is stepped in Baba Nyonya culture with opulent ‘Baba merchants’ houses and
elegantly-conserved Nyonya restaurants that line the constricted roads. Christ
Church is small – once inside, right beside the front doors there is a long
table with brochures and religious paraphernalia for sale set up. There are
about ten rows of pews before the main altar and the whole place has old light
fixtures and plenty of worn-but-well-kept tiles.
After
finish visiting the Christ church also known at the red square and learn all
the history about the places, we decided to go back home . we hope that our
journey can help a little bit for tourist that would like to visit the
historical structure.
